Should I Care? - Ep. 04
In this week's episode of The Ego Death Podcast, Chris Marrone & Blaize Adam talk about the frequently occurring discussion on social media about moving away from capitalism as the primary engine of our economy. How capitalism has evolved into an ideology, making it risky to criticize it or make any reforms. The hosts contend that because economic policy and cultural norms are complex and nuanced, it is always worthwhile to look at them to identify their flaws and potential areas for development. We think the bulk of people are suffering because the system is broken in some way, while a tiny minority is thriving and doesn't see anything wrong with it. The system must reform, and to suggest otherwise is egotistical. We also comment on the controversy regarding Mr. Beast's charitable act, in which he paid for blind people's operations. While the gesture of kindness is commendable, some people are angry that Mr. Beast is necessary in order for these people to receive the medical treatment that ought to be a fundamental human right. We contend that society ought to advance to the point where fundamental necessities like food and clothing are given away without regard to a person's ability to pay. Some people may experience negative feelings when they observe others getting things without having to work for them; this mindset impedes progress. We exhort those who are listening to channel their bad feelings into action in order to improve the world for coming generations.
